Aquastar was perhaps the single most innovative dive watch brand of the 1960s. The Aquastar Deepstar was introduced in 1965 and has an impressive history of diving ingenuity. From supplying watches to Jacques Cousteau’s dive team in 1965 to hosting over a dozen patents for everything from depth gauges to computer-grade bezels. The original Aquastar Deepstar even came with its own decompression dive table, which corresponds to the ingenious life-saving bezel. This hand-wound chronograph with a single 30-minute register also functioned essentially as a dive computer because of its state of the art bezel. Designed by a Belgian diver and scientist, Marc Jasinski, the bezel features a dual scale engraved on a steel ring. The scale not only tracked dive time but also enabled a diver to estimate required surface intervals between dives and decompression times for subsequent dives. Proper timing of these intervals was crucial for allowing enough time for the nitrogen levels in the body's tissues and bloodstream to level off before the next dive. Without sufficient elapsed time between dives, the heightened nitrogen can cause severe harm to organs, joints, and the spinal column, which can result in paralysis or death. Aquastar quite literally created a life-saving tool watch when the Deepstar was released to market, making this model a crucial piece of dive watch history.

The watch comes supplied on the original tropic rubber strap with signed buckle, as well as an additional black Horween leather strap with signed buckle.
